Mountain resort Shymbulak

Mountain resort Shymbulak is one of the highest and most modern ski resorts in Central Asia, located in the Zailiysky Alatau mountains, just 25 km from Almaty. The resort's elevation ranges from 2,260 to 3,200 meters above sea level, making it one of the highest in the world.

The ski season lasts from November to April, thanks to stable snow cover and over 300 sunny days per year. The resort offers more than 20 km of slopes for all skill levels and 7 modern lifts, including a cable car connecting to Medeo.

There are several hotels of varying comfort levels on the resort’s territory, as well as a variety of restaurants and cafes where guests can enjoy both local and international cuisine. Kok-Tobe Park

Kok-Tobe Park is one of Almaty's main attractions, located atop the mountain of the same name at an altitude of 1,100 meters above sea level. You can reach the park via a scenic 1,620-meter-long cable car that starts in the city center and offers breathtaking views of Almaty and the Zailiysky Alatau mountains.

The park features a wide range of family-friendly entertainment: amusement rides, a Ferris wheel, rope park, climbing wall, mini-zoo, and children’s playgrounds. One of its highlights is the famous monument to The Beatles — the first of its kind in the CIS, unveiled in 2007.

There are also several restaurants and cafes on-site, including "Yurta," a traditional Kazakh-style restaurant offering local cuisine. The park’s observation decks provide stunning panoramic views of the city and surrounding mountains, especially at sunset.

Kok-Tobe Park is open year-round and is a perfect spot for relaxation, leisurely walks, and enjoying nature within city limits.

The Park of 28 Panfilov Guardsmen

The Park of 28 Panfilov Guardsmen is one of Almaty's most iconic landmarks, located in the city center. Established in the late 19th century, it was renamed in 1942 to honor the Panfilov heroes — soldiers who bravely defended Moscow in 1941.

The park’s main attraction is the Glory Memorial with the Eternal Flame, where commemorative ceremonies are held annually. Other highlights include the Ascension Cathedral — a unique wooden Orthodox church built without a single nail — and the Ykylas Museum of Folk Musical Instruments, which houses a rich collection of Kazakh and Turkic instruments.

With its shady alleys, green spaces, and historical atmosphere, the park is a popular spot for both locals and visitors, serving as a symbol of patriotism and remembrance.

Republic Square, Almaty

Republic Square is the central and largest square in Almaty, located between Dostyk Avenue and Zheltoksan Street. Opened in 1980, it has long served as the main venue for major public events, including parades, celebrations, and rallies. It was here in 1991 that Kazakhstan’s independence was proclaimed.

The centerpiece of the square is the Monument of Independence, unveiled in 1996. It features a 28-meter tall column topped with the figure of the “Golden Man” riding a winged leopard — a symbol of strength and national sovereignty. Surrounding the monument are bas-reliefs depicting key moments in Kazakhstan’s history.

The square is surrounded by important buildings such as the Almaty City Akimat (former headquarters of the Communist Party of Kazakhstan), the Republican Palace of Schoolchildren, and other administrative and cultural institutions. In 1982, the architects of the square were awarded the USSR State Prize for their outstanding contribution to architecture.

Today, Republic Square remains a vital public space where national holidays, cultural events, and civic gatherings take place — symbolizing both Almaty’s historical legacy and its dynamic modern spirit.

Green Bazaar (Kök Bazar)

Green Bazaar (Kök Bazar) is one of Almaty’s most popular and vibrant markets, located in the city center. Established in 1868, it combines rich history, traditions, and modern infrastructure. The current building was constructed in 1975 and renovated in 2017, making it comfortable and convenient for visitors.

The market offers a wide variety of goods: fresh fruits and vegetables, spices, meat, fish, dairy products, as well as textiles and souvenirs. Special highlights include Eastern delicacies and products from neighboring countries. The atmosphere is a true Eastern fairy tale, with vendors often offering samples right on the spot.

For visitors’ convenience, there is a two-level parking lot, along with cafes and canteens serving traditional cuisine. Green Bazaar is not just a shopping destination but a unique cultural space where you can feel the spirit of Almaty and discover its traditions.
