The Park of 28 Panfilov Guardsmen

The Park of 28 Panfilov Guardsmen is one of Almaty's most iconic landmarks, located in the city center. Established in the late 19th century, it was renamed in 1942 to honor the Panfilov heroes — soldiers who bravely defended Moscow in 1941.

The park’s main attraction is the Glory Memorial with the Eternal Flame, where commemorative ceremonies are held annually. Other highlights include the Ascension Cathedral — a unique wooden Orthodox church built without a single nail — and the Ykylas Museum of Folk Musical Instruments, which houses a rich collection of Kazakh and Turkic instruments.

With its shady alleys, green spaces, and historical atmosphere, the park is a popular spot for both locals and visitors, serving as a symbol of patriotism and remembrance.
